Vryc is a college of spirits bard but it's more or less out of circumstance. As part of the githyanki rite of passage they murdered a mindflayer, turns out they picked the wrong guy to mess with and now they're haunted by Ankilukt, the extremely vengeful and unfortunate soul Vryc targeted that day. He absolutely deserves to be haunted. Vryc started hearin' voices, one voice in particular standing out from the rest being Ankilukt. Outraged, they spend the rest of their afterlife makin' Vryc's current life as miserable and unbearable as possible. The curse of constant torment from Ankilukt and just hearing various passing conversations of spirits drives Vryc up the wall, and arguing with Ankilukt doesn't make it any better. Vryc's ultimate goal is to find a cure for this curse and rid of Ankilukt for good. Overtime as Ankilukt's pure vengence starts to simmer down a notch and the two realise they are stuck with each other beyond their will, they eventually develop somewhat of a frenemies type relationship.
Vryc has no control over the voices of countless spirits they now hear constantly and has tried many methods of attempting to get rid of them and Ankilukt, nothing of which seems to work. They did discover that they can drown out the voices by simply makin' even louder sounds, and that's how they got into drumming and other instruments. They do also resort to literally drowning out the voices by gettin' drunk. Vryc clings to anything that helps distract his conciousness from the voices.
