Sydney is somewhat quiet and tends not to socialise much outside of her friendship group mostly 'cuz she doesn't like people and people are annoying and she finds it extremely difficult to be nice for the sake of being nice. That and she's also a bit socially awkward and has an expectation that any stranger who wants to talk to her is gonna make fun of her or somethin'. She's very intelligent and is generally known by most people for being unwelcoming and rude, though a lot of it comes from being defensive and covering up her own insecurities. Like most inkfish she's a quick learner who finds it easy to pick up and solve new problems and concepts and she enjoys puzzle and riddle solving to keep her brain going, and also gets really frustrated with dumb people and struggles with bein' patient with them and in general.

The beetle that is always on her head is her brother Darwin, he's more chatty and is a complete dickhead though rather than bein' a jerk defensively like his sister he's just an asshole in general. He's frequently commenting and makin' mean jokes on the people around them which Sydney often finds annoying whether she agrees with it or not. No one can really understand Darwin so he gets away with a lot of it unless his sister decides to tell others what he's said. Darwin communicates with Sydney with a psychic link which they can't do with anyone else. Most don't even realise when they're having a conversation with each other to begin with. While he does understand general speech he can only make stridulatory sounds that make no sense to anybody except other inkfish beetles, so he can't really communicate with others apart from Sydney, but he can write out responses on paper or on their mobile. Most of the time though he just uses Sydney as a middle-man to deliver his sentences 'cuz it's just easier and he generally relies on her to be able to do a lot of things for him. Anyway his filter for not bein an asshole and bein sensitive to others is pretty small.
